Band Family,
This email contains information regarding our Holiday Concert Dress Rehearsal on Monday, December 17, from 3:30-5:30pm, and our Holiday Concert on Tuesday, December 18, at 7:00pm in the auditorium. As both dates were on the syllabus sent out back in August, both are mandatory. Call time for all Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble students will be 6:00pm on stage for sound check and tuning. Dress is concert black (please refer to your course syllabus for specifics). Students who do not wear the appropriate attire may not be permitted to perform and/or have their letter grade in band class lowered. This concert will feature a combined BIG band of both Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble, plus our Concert and Chamber choirs. It’s always a wonderful night of music and well attended! Tell your family and friends!!! Students who are not in band class this semester are encouraged to attend, support their peers and come play Sleigh Ride!
Don’t forget about our bake sale and gift bag fundraisers. Please refer to previous emails for information. Poinsettias and bed sheets from those fundraisers will be available for pick up that night as well.
Also, I would like to propose a fun and simple way for band families to leave a legacy and honor their student(s). For each concert piece we perform, a family would be given the opportunity to “purchase” the piece in honor of their child(ren). I would inscribe on the original parts the student’s name (where it will remain in our library “forever”) as well as make a note in the program. That note would look something like this:
Fantasia and Fugue in C Minor
Donated by Jane and John Doe in honor of their daughter Bambi (’19).
Below are the pieces we will be performing and their current publisher prices. Simply drop me an email if you are interested in sponsoring one of these pieces. I will need to know by the end of this week if you want your child’s name in the program. Or let me know after the concert if you hear a piece you loved and want to sponsor it for future generations. It is my hope that this is a wonderful way to honor your child(ren) AND help the band offset costs. PLUS, your donation is TAX-DEDUCTIBLE!
Spirit of the Falcon (Richard Saucedo) – $65
A Christmas Festival (Leroy Anderson) – $87

The Seal Lullaby (Eric Whitacre) – $125

Chaconne for Winds (Charles Carter) – $45

Parade of The Wooden Soldier (Leon Jessel/arr. Osterling) $45

Dashing Through the Snow (Richard Saucedo) – $60

Sleigh Ride (Leroy Anderson) – $87 ***depending on interest, we may make this a yearly sponsorship because we will play it every year! Let’s not fight over this one ?
Looking forward to a wonderful evening of music!!! Come see these wonderful students show off their hard work!
Yay Band!
Mr. Still
