Dear Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble students and parents,
This email contains information regarding our upcoming Festival Concert scheduled for Tuesday, March 19 beginning at 6pm* in our Auditorium as well as our wind ensemble’s MPA Performance. It’s kinda cool that Wind Ensemble has been placed to end the entire event! Our performance time is 4:35pm at Moorseville HS on Friday, April 5. *(Note the time change from my original email yesterday. Trying to accommodate Driver’s Ed and Indoor Percussion).
Festival Concert – Tuesday, March 19
Symphonic Band performs at 6pm to kick off our concert. Students will need to report the stage at 5:30pm in their all-black concert attire. I ask all Symphonic Band students to stay for the next two bands (East Lincoln Symphonic Band and West Lincoln Wind Ensemble) to hear those groups and cheer them on. Wind Ensemble needs to report to the auditorium at 7:30pm (they will hear the wind ensembles of Lincolnton and East Lincoln). Wind Ensemble performs at 8:30pm. Again, all-black concert attire. Please refer to the course syllabus for attire requirements as well as grading. Students who fail to attend and participate in the concert WITHOUT permission from Mr. Still will receive a failing grade. Below is the line-up of the county concert bands:
North Lincoln Symphonic Band – 6:00pm
West Lincoln Wind Ensemble – 6:30pm
East Lincoln Symphonic Band – 7:00pm
Lincolnton Symphonic Band – 7:30pm
East Lincoln Wind Ensemble – 8:00pm
North Lincoln Wind Ensemble – 8:30pm
Wind Ensemble MPA (Music Performance Assessment) – Friday, April 5
1:45pm – students released from 4th period/report to NLHS/change into concert attire
2:15pm – depart NLHS for MHS via activity bus
3:00pm – arrive MHS/orientation
3:50pm – warmup
4:35pm – MPA Performance!
5:15pm – sightread
5:30pm – receive rating/load buses/depart for NLHS
6:15pm – arrive NLHS/unload
MPA is arguably the most important performance of the year for our band program. It is this concert that we prepare some of the most challenging literature for the students and perform a very fine program. Highly qualified music educators adjudicate MPA, and our rating is published yearly throughout the state. In many ways, MPA is viewed as the EOC for band. Due to the nature of this performance and its weight on our music department’s “credibility”, it will constitute 2 performance grades, and as such, will take priority over other after school activities.
I am excited about our upcoming performances! Let me know if you have any questions.
Yay Band!
Mr. Still
