Westport 4th of July Parade logistics

Dear 2018 marching band students and parents,

WELCOME TO THE 2018 MARCHING SEASON! Officially, our season began right after graduation, and I am so excited for the upcoming year!  Of course I hope everyone is enjoying their summer break!

Our first official event is the Westport 4th of July parade on July 4, 2018!  Below are logistics for the parade.

Call Time will be 9am at the Food Lion parking lot at the corner of old Hwy 16 and Fairfield Forest Road.  The Parade starts promptly at 10:00am from Fairfield Forest United Methodist Church. The parade route is approximately 1 mile and ends in the parking lot at St Peter By the Lake Episcopal Church (approximately 1 mile). The road is blocked off for the parade at 9:40am.  Below is the music for the parade.  Please print off a copy and work to memorize it!  Older students will be expected to know the music… younger students should try but don’t feel like you have to have the music completely down!

We will not rehearse as a group formally prior to the parade, but students who need to load a larger instrument (tubas, battery, etc.) will need to meet at the school at 8am the morning of the 4th to help me load the box truck.  Front Ensemble students will either march a battery instrument (speak with your section leaders) or hold the banner.  Color Guard students will march in front of the band and be cheery!!!

Dress for the parade is RED, WHITE, and BLUE!  It will be warm so dress appropriately (school rules do apply!).  Sneakers and socks are required for all band members.

If students are planning to be out of town, please send me an email saying so.  If students are in town, they are expected to march the parade.  This event is a wonderful community event and shows our appreciation for the community who ultimately supports this GREAT BAND PROGRAM!

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Yay Band!

Mr. Still
